National Guard Association of Vermont
(Name of Person Memorialized Here) Scholarship

  1. On (DATE TO BE DETERMINED) the National Guard Association of Vermont (NGA-VT) established the (NAME OF PERSON MEMORIALIZED HERE) or NGA-VT Scholarship.
  1. Eligibility: The following persons are eligible:
    1. A current member of the Vermont National Guard.
    2. An unmarried son or daughter of a current member of the VTNG.
    3. A spouse of a current member of the VTNG.
    4. Honorary, Associate and Corporate membership do not meet the eligibility criteria.
  1. Permitted use:
    1. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 for current school year applications.
    2. Applicants must be pursuing ON A FULL-TIME BASIS (12 or more credits), associate degrees (2 or 3 year program), undergraduate degrees or technical degrees from schools that are accredited by the U.S. or state Department of Education.
    3. Awards will be sent directly to the recipient with each check made payable to the recipient's school. To receive the awards, verifications will be required to the effect that enrollment has commenced.
    4. Scholarship applications will be judged on financial need, academic performance, and overall potential for a commitment to selfless service. Scholarship payments will be made in full to the institution named by the applicant when confirmation of enrollment is established.
    5. There shall be no undue consideration given because of family relationship, friendship, rank, or any other extraneous factor. Awards will be made on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and need.
  1. Application Process: Applicants will complete NGA-VT Scholarship Foundation application and submit completed form and additional documents as outlined in application instructions.
  1. Additional Instructions:
    1. There will be two (2) scholarships awarded each year.
    2. NGA-VT will establish a separate account for this scholarship.
    3. TBD - details on how to fund the scholarship account and whether to disburse all funds annually or allow them to accrue from year to year.
    4. Former recipients of the Name of Person Memorialized Here Scholarship are eligible to reapply.
    5. Those persons who have applied for the scholarship and were not selected may reapply, provided they still meet the eligibility criteria.
    6. If the recipient does not complete the school term due to any cause other than personal illness or injury, he or she will refund the award to NGA-VT within sixty (60) days from the date enrollment was terminated.
    7. NGA-VT will appoint annually a scholarship committee of three NGA-VT members. The committee will designate one of its members to serve as chairman.
    8. All scholarship applications will be sent to the scholarship chairman. The scholarship committee will review applications for timeliness, accuracy and completeness, and then evaluate applications and determine scholarship awards.
    9. Evaluation criteria for applications TBD.
    10. The applications for scholarships must be postmarked no later than July 1 each year. Deadline date for all applications for scholarships will be observed in all instances.
