2019 Membership Drive
ALL Officers and Warrant Officers of the Vermont Army and Air National Guard,
NGAUS is the nation’s oldest military association. Officers formed it in 1878 to obtain better equipment and training by petitioning Congress for more resources. NGAUS ensures that the National Guard is funded and equipped at levels on par with the Active Component.
NGAUS also fights to ensure we get the same benefits of service including TRICARE Reserve Select health insurance, the Post 9/11 GI Bill, and recently, a 2.4% pay increase. Today, with a membership of 45,000 Guard officers, NGAUS continues that mission in support of nearly 464,000 current Guard men and women, as well as their families, employers and all Guard retirees.
NGAUS has been influential in the decision to give the Vermont National Guard the only mountain brigade in the Army; the first HH-60M Blackhawk Helicopters in the Army; and the F35 Joint Strike Fighter.
The National Guard Association of Vermont (NGA-VT) is the state organization that supports NGAUS. NGA-VT plays a part in enabling NGAUS to advocate for national issues. It also supports guard members at the local level. NGA-VT annually provides over $5,000 in scholarships to family members and guard members. NGA-VT worked with state government to pass the H.72 Education bill resulting in the Vermont National Guard Tuition Benefit Program (VNGTBP) that provides free tuition to any Vermont State College as well as scholarships to Vermont Private Colleges.
Member benefits for individuals include:
- Access to exclusive professional development opportunities
- Opportunities to apply for scholarships
- Insurance supplements designed for members of the National Guard
- A monthly subscription to National Guard magazine
- Exclusive access to articles and legislative analysis
Here is just a sampling what NGA-VT has been involved in: the Military Ball, scholarships, the Spirit of Ethan Allen cruise, the company grade mixer, and the NGA-VT annual COL Alan J. Leclair memorial golf tournament.
